The original intros, by each of our truly awesome Team members: Scott, Ricardo, Austin,Catherine and Caleb:
My name is Scott Hoecker, and I am thrilled to be a part of Girl Meets Dog!
I grew up in the Western Suburbs, spending most of my time in the woods behind the house and wishing my family's TV could get the channel with Power Rangers. Of course now I'm glad that it couldn't, because all that time in the woods fostered my love for the outdoors. Whenever I came inside for the night, I would always have plenty of company in my family's many pets. Over the years we've had 7 cats (4 currently), an gentle giant of an Alaskan malamute, Nicky, when I was very young, and a goofy Greyhound Rescue I grew up with, Sean.
When I moved to the city to study trumpet performance at DePaul in 2007, the urban environment and lack of pets in the dorms was a big change. It was the first time in my life I didn't have an animal to come home to!
I've gotten used to the city, and really grown to love it. The musical atmosphere here in Chicago is unlike any other I've experienced. It keeps me striving to get better and better, which means that I'm usually inside practicing instead of being outside! I also haven't had a schedule which could support a dog of my own yet.
Which is why I can't wait to meet all of yours! I'm so excited to give your pups the exercise and outdoors time that they (and I!) need!
Hello everyone, I’m Ric.
I was born and grew up in cNew York City and made the move to Chicago earlier this year. I’m awriter and reporter.
I’m a dog lover atheart, but mostly a cat owner in reality, thanks to the realities of NYC apartment living. My family has raised four cats over the years, the most recent of
which is Willow, a Maine Coon we adopted for my youngest sister last year. It’s probably the smartest animal we’ve ever owned.
When I was in high school, my sister decided she wanted a dog, so my family adopted Brownie, a Yorkshire Terrier. I loved having a dog around and I’m looking forward toone day being able to adopt my own.
When I’m not working, I’m usually riding my bike around the city (mostly the lakefront path), taking a walk, or at the movies. I’m also an avid photographer, and I’m looking forward to not only walking your dogs, but also photographing them.
My name is Austin and I’m your new dog walker! Hoping to introduce myself and give a little background on me.
I grew up in Bloomington-Normal, IL and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2015. After undergrad, I worked for an insurance company here in Chicago but after a year I decided I wanted to go back to school; I am currently obtaining a Masters in Network Engineering and Security at DePaul University.
Which brings me to Girl Meets Dog! Since most of my classes are night/online, I am happy as can be to provide the love, care, and attention you have for for your pup every day. Growing up, I was always surrounded by dogs of all kinds, so I’m happy to adjust to anything your dog will need. I truly mean it when I say I am happy to give your dog the attention and love you as owners give every day!
In my spare time, I really enjoy staying active; whether it’s lifting, running, playing sports or walking/playing with dogs if it involves movement I’m in! But, I also really enjoy taking it easy by watching sports (Cubs! Bulls! Packers! This Madison, WI-born, Illinois-raised kid has some interesting sports allegiances, I know haha), movies, TV shows, and playing video games.
Can’t wait to meet all the precious pups!
My name is Tommy and I’m excited to be a part of the GMD team!
From rural and Springfield, Missouri, I was always surrounded by pets growing up. Most of my great memories from raising such amazing animals come from living on a dairy farm with 3 beagles and 2 black labs. Bruiser, Punky, Buster, Macy, and Irving. My family also always had a handful of kitties running around as well. With these loving animals I learned a lot about the responsibility and caring for other living things and personalities.
Since then I’ve moved to Chicago to pursue various career paths in cooking and music. I graduated from Le Cordon Bleu last year with a culinary certificate and I also play in a couple bands throughout the city from time to time. Drums for life!
Recently I decide to get out of the hot kitchens to have a more regular lifestyle. Which brings me to GMD! Getting out and about the great neighborhoods of this wonderful city and a chance to meet fresh new excited walking pals? Why not?
I’ve always had a knack for befriend dogs and caring for them from the start and with heart. I love the energy they can bring and how they can just brighten up a day no matter the situation!
Hi everyone! I'm Catherine and I'm so excited to be a part of Girl Meets Dog!
I grew up in Glenview, the northwest suburbs of Chicago and moved to the city to study Vocal Performance at Columbia College in 2010. I graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Music and since then have been singing all over the city with a slew of different bands and projects. I started walking dogs and loved it so much that I continued it for 2 years until I took a break to work on music more intently. But I started to miss all the beautiful dogs and cats I cared for so so much! And that's why I'm joining Girl Meets Dog as a boarder/sitter! I'm so excited to meet your pooches and give them a comfortable and safe place to stay while you're out of town! Most of all I'm going to be so happy to have a companion staying with me so I can enjoy the best of both worlds, music and pups!
My name is Caleb and I’m so excited to be a part of Girl Meets Dog!
A little bit about me:
I play the trumpet and have recently graduated from DePaul in the spring with my degree in trumpet performance. Chicago is one of the best places in the country for musicians and there isn’t anywhere else I’d rather live as a freelance trumpet player. I spend my time playing everything from jazz to classical, and I’m even a part of an old school hip hop cover band.
Back in Wichita, Kansas, where I am from originally before I moved to Chicago, my family looks after, one cat named Maddy, and four rescued beagles...Libby, Simon, Shiloh, and the youngest Molly. They have so much energy and so much to say that they can be quite the handful! But they are so sweet and have so much love to give, I love every minute with them. These little dogs are a big part of my life that was hard to leave behind to travel away for school, but my amazing cat Bud keeps me company here in Chicago.
I’m having such a great time getting to know your pets, as I learn all of the ins and outs of taking only the very best care of them. There are so many amazing dogs here to meet and spend time with, and I am thrilled to get the opportunity to do so! I always relish the chance to get up and walk or bike around the city, so now I can’t wait to have some fantastic company while I am out and about.
I am greatly looking forward to becoming a part of you and your pet’s lives, and can’t wait to spend my time looking after them and making sure they get all the exercise, love, and adventure they need!
